Just like fruit and vegetables, choosing seasonal flowers means you will enjoy the freshest and most beautiful blooms available. Your flowers will reflect the natural world, with each month offering an exciting variety of blooms as the seasons change. Choosing to use seasonal, Australian grown flowers is also a more ethical, eco-friendly and economical option.
Many of the flowers sold in shops or supermarkets are grown overseas in Africa, Asia and South America. By the time they reach our shores and make it to the flower store, it can be up to a week or more since they were harvested, chemically treated, fumigated and cold packed. Often, their cheaper price is due to the low wages and poor working conditions under which they have been produced.
We are so fortunate in Australia to have access to beautiful, fresh, locally grown flowers. This is why I choose to source my blooms directly from local flower farmers or wholesale markets, selecting only the best Australian grown, seasonal flowers and foliage.
The following guide is available to assist you in choosing your favourite seasonal blooms, with information sourced from Modern Wedding Flowers magazine (Vol.18).
